In what may be the single most failure for DRM (digital rights management) of all time, gamers playing the PC version of Gears of War have found their game doesn’t run as of yesterday. That’s right, the certificate to run the game expired.
Epic Games is aware of the problem and will likely issue a patch soon.
Most hilarious about the story is that setting your clock back actually fixes it. Apparently we have gone back in time to the days when that would work. Remember changing your PC time to the year 2040 before installing a program with a 30 day trial? Good times.
Oh, and don’t worry, if you pirated the game, your copy still works.
