Promising new zombie survival game from Valve. Hadn’t heard of it until I saw this video interview. Zombie survival isn’t new to Valve, there is pretty legit HL2 mod that is a lot of fun called Zombie Panic, but from the video interview, Left 4 Dead looks a lot more promising. It deals with some of the fallings of Zombie Panic.
For one, there is a cooperative co-op mode for 1-4 players, which is great news for any one who likes to game with friends. But also two, the verses mode is 4 v 4, with one side representing the zombies and the other representing the humans. This is a large improvement over the Many v 1 verses mode of Zombie Panic, where the majority of the games were largely imbalanced from the zombie master player skill.
It sounds like they making some advances in the AI department as well. The interviewee touches on it a bit, but the wikipedia page has a little more.
The AI also features a dynamic system for game drama, pacing and difficulty called the “Director”. Instead of fixed spawn points for enemies, the AI director places enemies in different positions, creating a new experience each time. It will also balance action and moments of tense calm.[4] When the AI Director feels that players have been facing a particularly intense battle, it will slow down the tide of enemies. After a sufficient lull of action, the director will send more enemies to increase the drama again.
Can’t wait.
That. Looks RAD.
Mmm, indeed it does. I need a good zombie game.
